Bulloch County’s most recent Coroner, Richard Pylant, was sworn in as coroner at the end of April 2023. Plyant was previously a deputy coroner for Bulloch County but took over as coroner when previous Coroner Jake Futch resigned from the position in the middle of his term. Plyant served out the remainder of Futch’s term, which ended in December of 2024.
Plyant was chosen because he was not interested in running for the coroner position long-term. The coroner was chosen from the three Deputy Coroners, Richard Plyant, Craig Tremble, and Chuck Francis.
